Is it Spring Yet?

My daffodils have started to come up.  They are thinking about raising their golden heads and announcing spring.

But, then, they sigh and decide to wait.  Just a bit longer.  Not quite yet.  Maybe next week, they say to me.

Sitting in the garden isn't exactly inviting, at the moment.

While we were at the Alisal, it snowed.  The night we got home it snowed again.  It was just a few inches each time, and disappeard fast, but a definite reminder that February -- even the last week of February -- is still winter.  When we returned home, the house was freezing cold -- 48F.  We quickly unpacked, showered (ahhhhh, hot water) and climbed into bed, under the duvet, where it was warm.

Jackson is getting tired of living in the roundpen.

I'm tired of this:

And looking forward to more of this:

  1. Hope Spring springs soon for you! And that the water issue mellows out a bit. Drought is one thing, flooding another. Maybe just something in between? :D

    1. Something in between would be wonderful. I don't want it to be hot and dry, but this flooding has got to stop. They just announced that the snow pack is at 185% of normal -- which is wonderful from a drought perspective, but not so great from a flooding perspective (when it starts to melt).

  3. Your daffodils are pretty they always remind me of happy flowers. Maybe it's the color or the shape I don't know. Hope Spring comes soon and the flooding is a memory. All our snow melted recently and it's getting to look very muddy around here.

    1. Daffodils are my favorite flower. I love their bright cheerfulness, their subtle scent and the way they are first heralds of spring. To me, they are a hopeful flower.

Over here, the coldest months of the year are usually January and February. We sometimes have an odd dusting of snow even into April! Brrrrr...

    I can't wait for spring/summer!!

    1. We also get the odd dusting of snow into April; March is still fair game. In fact, we have snow in the forecast for Sunday night. ...oh, joy...

  5. Last snow since I have lived here was May 23rd. Several years ago. Anyhow, I so agree with you about being tired of the rain. I used to be tired of the never-ending sunshine, but it has been so great to see the sun for the past few days.

  6. The daffodils are a good sign. You're area seems pretty much perfect, you get all the seasons, but none are overly harsh. I'm evaluating areas now because moving south is very tempting after this winter. Hawaii is #1 on my list, but it's about 4,000 per horse to fly them over and houses are about double what they are here. Plus, people get "island fever". So, now I'm looking in the continental US. I doubt we will, but maybe.

    1. I agree that our weather is pretty close to perfect. In the summer we have a couple really hot days, but there are always the lakes further up in the Sierras to escape to. Hawaii is very expensive for horses -- so much of everything is imported. I think the cost of living is quite high also (food, housing, etc). Come be my neighbor! (El Dorado County in CA)
